Midlands Mediation Center

About this Organization

The Midlands Mediation Center (MMC) was created to promote the civic goals of voluntary resolution of dispute between members of the community by making available to all, regardless of their ability to pay, a voluntary alternative to litigation through the process of mediation, facilitation and conciliation. Community Mediation Centers were created out of the 1964 Civil Rights Act which stated (Title X).

Midlands Mediation Center is committed to training community volunteers to provide cost-effective, and timely dispute resolution services. Since 1998, the Midlands Mediation Center (formerly the Community Mediation Center) has provided affordable mediation services to Midlands residents. Mediation is defined in two terms, (1) the alternative to the judicial process via a third person neutral and (2) initiating, facilitating and educating the community at the earliest stage of dispute, disagreement or conflict. MMC was the FIRST community-based mediation center of its kind in the state and remains the only one of two centers in South Carolina.
