CASA/Family Systems is a private, not-for-profit organization serving Bamberg, Calhoun and Orangeburg counties whose primary focus is providing support, advocacy, and intervention to individuals and families who have been affected by sexual assault, family violence, and/or child abuse and neglect. CASA/Family Systems was chartered in July 1979 as Tri County CASA (Citizens Against Sexual Assault) a rape crisis center. This was an effort by a group of citizens in Bamberg, Calhoun and Orangeburg counties who were concerned about victims of sexual assault. Those concerned included medical and mental health providers, and law enforcement.
In 1990, the agency expanded its services to include victims of domestic violence and in 1991 changed its name to CASA/Family Services to be more inclusive of the array of services and to recognize the growth.
Since 1991, CASA/Family Services has expanded it services to include advocacy and support to survivors of domestic and family violence.
