With the support of the National Endowment for the Humanities and individual, corporate, and foundation donors, South Carolina Humanities is a small organization accomplishing big things. Established in 1973, this 501(c)3 organization is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of community leaders from throughout the state.
Our programs explore the rich heritage of our state and its links to the cultural traditions of our nation and the world. SC Humanities presents and supports literary initiatives, lectures, exhibits, festivals, videos, publications, oral history projects, and other humanities-based experiences that reach more than 250,000 citizens annually.
SC Humanities strives to make connections across our state. Together with our partners throughout South Carolina, we work to move SC forward as a state by providing resources that increase the cultural capacity of local institutions and provide local economic impact.
SC Humanities awards grants and coordinates programs like our Speakers Bureau: Humanities Out Loud, the annual South Carolina Humanities Festival, South Carolina Awards in the Humanities Luncheon and Ceremony, the Museum on Main Street partnership with the Smithsonian, and other special initiatives.
