The Building Thriving Communities Foundation was designated a non-profit foundation in 2020 in order to transform the old Gallman High School building (the former African-American high school and a South Carolina Equalization School) into a community center with educational, social, recreational, and health programs. Further, Gallman Place will bring many different organizations, programs, and activities under one roof, offering community members a convenient and efficient way to meet multiple needs and receive comprehensive services. The building will also serve as a gathering place, a site for presentations, meetings, athletic events, meals, and socializing. And it will contain a history and archives room, reminding us of the importance of the school in Newberry history.
