Dogwood Acres Senior Dog Rescue

About this Organization

Dan Jones, US Army (ret) and his wife Tammy are committed to providing a loving home for senior and special needs dogs and giving them the love, care, and attention they deserve. In 2022, they decided to fill their empty nest by moving to the country and starting Dogwood Acres. They were inspired first by Nikki, a beagle found with a hunting collar embedded in her neck, a tumor in her armpit, severe tooth decay, and who had such a severe ear infection, her ear was permanently disfigured. They were further inspired by Agnus, or "Aggie"; a very senior beagle found stray that was completely deaf and blind. They felt she was aptly named because Agnus means "holy," and God surely was watching over her out there on her own for her to make it. Dan and Tammy had a wonderful 9 months loving and spoiling her before she passed of heart failure. As less than 25% of seniors are adopted, Dogwood Acres is committed to rescue those least likely to be adopted due to their age and/or medical condition. They strive to educate others about the lifetime commitment of pet ownership and the responsibility that comes with it. They also create awareness about resources to help families keep their senior.
