LVS empowers blind and visually impaired persons in low-income families through affordable eye surgeries that save and restore sight, vision technology that supports safe and independent living, eyeglasses that correct minor vision impairments, and free vision screenings to foster early identify and treatment of vision impairments. We currently define "low-income" as households who possess total annual income of 200% or less of Federal Poverty Guidelines. The average LVS client has an annual gross income of $19,300 with 2 dependents.
LVS improves clients' quality of life by more than 50% following LVS services, enabling clients to return to work, care for family and loved ones, reduce burdens on other caregivers, and better manage their overall health and well being. The scale of our eyecare services expands annually as the prevalence of blindness and vision loss continues to increase.
LVS leads within the eyecare industry, managing the only statewide coalition of nonprofit, healthcare, & government partners serving the blind and visually impaired. A network of eyecare professionals support LVS with in-kind services, allowing LVS to leverage every $1 raised into $4 in services.
