We believe in access, that films, or any art, should not solely be experienced within traditional spaces. So as a nomadic cinema, The Luminal Theater brings Black independent films and media directly to Black communities, providing access in open spaces where community members and audiences can feel both welcome and safe.
Local audiences deserve programs that care about their past, their experiences, and what futures they can forge, and so everything we present comes from a place of care and love for our culture.
With all of our programs - including BLK Docs (in which we brought the SC premieres of Oscar-winner "Summer of Soul"), Films at the Farm (presented at a local farm with hard-to-find films like "Black Rodeo" and classics like "The Preacher's Wife"), and Viewing Reserved (Black films that will spark imagination and curiosity) - The Luminal continues to bring entertainment and stewards the Black experience to the public-at-large.
As an organization, we serve the community's diverse and growing population of filmmakers, film enthusiasts, multiple discipline artists and art-minded people which Black neighborhoods possess and attract in abundance.
