Rocky Bottom Retreat and Conference Center of the Blind
About this Organization
Rocky Bottom Retreat and Conference Center of the Blind is a 501 (c) (3), non-profit camp facility, located in the mountains of Northern Pickens County. Rocky Bottom is affiliated with the National Federation of the Blind of South Carolina but is operated separately by the blind. Annual Children's Camp, provided free of charge to participants in the summer, is one of the highlighted programs offered. The focus of this camp is to provide students ages 6 to 15 with an exciting, fun-filled week featuring various learning experiences. Along with the opportunity to form lasting associations with their blind and visually impaired peers, the majority of camp staff is comprised of successful blind adults who also serve as role models for the children. For many of these campers, this is the first time they have been around successful blind adults before. Another worthwhile program is Senior Camp usually offered twice yearly for blind people 55 and over. The camps are one week each, giving the seniors the chance to fellowship together. Most of the year, Rocky Bottom is available for use by blind individuals and their families, and open for rent to the public.
