South Carolina Environmental Law Project (SCELP) is the legal muscle working within South Carolina communities for the good of the state's natural systems. Fiercely passionate and steadfast, we are driven to do right by our land, water, and communities: defending them from irreversible harm, correcting past wrongs, and promoting systemic change to safeguard them.
In 1987, SCELP began as a project: to combat the most alarming environmental threats in SC and protect what makes life here distinctive. Today, we are still fighting. We remain the only non-profit environmental law firm exclusively in and of this state, extending legal assistance to individuals, groups, and organizations from the mountains to the sea. With each victory, we are building a powerful legacy of protection. Throughout our existence, we have concentrated our efforts on cases designed to strengthen state and local laws and conservation outcomes.
