Serving as a vessel of hope to those with low to moderate income in Sumter since 1987, Habitat for Humanity, Inc. Sumter, S.C., a tax-exempt. 501(C)(3) organization is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. We are an independent, local non-profit organization that furthers the Habitat for Humanity mission. We coordinate all facets of fundraising and home building in our service area. With financial backing and volunteer assistance from partnering churches, organizations, businesses, and individuals from the local community, Sumter Habitat for Humanity is proud to have constructed 130 single-family homes since 1987. We use three criteria to select families to partner with in our homeownership program: 1. The need for safe, decent, and affordable housing. 2. The ability to pay an affordable mortgage. 3. The willingness to partner with our ministry in building their own house and the houses of their future neighbors. We currently build 1 - 2 new homes yearly with future homeowner families and community partners. In five years, we aim to work on two new homes and multiple ramp projects yearly to allow us to serve more Sumter families in need of affordable housing.
