Built on a foundation of compassion and dedication, the Unumb Center for Neurodevelopment traces its roots back over 15 years to the tireless advocacy efforts of our founders, Dan and Lorri Unumb. Their global journey in autism advocacy began with a mission to support families unable to afford treatment, culminating in the landmark legislation known as "Ryan's Law," passed in 2007. Named in honor of their son, this law mandated health insurance coverage for autism treatment, sparking a nationwide movement for autism insurance reform.
In 2010, Dan and Lorri Unumb joined forces with other passionate parents and youth development professionals to establish the Autism Academy of South Carolina. Recognizing the need for comprehensive, evidence-based services, they built a haven where individuals with autism could thrive. In 2019, to encompass the organization's expanded mission and offerings, the academy was renamed The Unumb Center for Neurodevelopment, a testament to the Unumb family's unwavering commitment to the autism community.
Today, the Unumb Center is dedicated to providing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy at our clinic, focusing on the individualized needs of each client. Looking ahead, we are excited to expand our services with the opening of a 10-acre adult facility in 2025. This facility will provide housing, day programming, and supportive care for adults with autism, filling a critical gap in services within the Midlands region.
At the Unumb Center for Neurodevelopment, we believe in the transformative power of compassion, advocacy, and evidence-based intervention.
